McGyver has discovered ice

OMG that was hysterical! Had McGyver outside to do his business, and he got into a mock play fight with the cat that has adopted this place. Well apparently Sweet Pea does NOT like it when a doglet tries to drag her around by one ear. So she took a sincere swipe at him.....they happened to be on a patch of ice at that moment....and McGyver tried to do his nyah nyah nyah scamper away with tail tucked down maneuver. Only...something...wasn't...working..quite...right. Oh his legs were moving just fine. But he sure wasn't getting anywhere! Running frantically in one spot, and the cat was like AH HA I got you now asshole! and jumped on top of him.

Where's mom during all this? Laughing her butt off.

Shoveling snow

OMFG!

It took me 2 hours to do just HALF the driveway!!! It's heavy WET snow...with ICE. 1-3 inches of snow equals a foot to foot and a half in the driveway. People were driving by in their big ol trucks staring at me...but I put on my big girl panties and didn't give a flying rats ass to what others did.

Got inside...fell out of all my clothes, hair was literally dripping wet. Phone rang...it was Wayne!!! Calling from his mother's house out in California. Wishing me a happy belated Yule and asking what the roads were like. Told him to stay there til after the 1st of the year, then by damn bring some of that warmth back with him! He'd need it cause where he lives, in North Missouri, it is literally buried. Wayne laughed and said he'd certainly try to bring some sun back with him. I'll take it!

My back didn't do too horribly....just aches a little bit now is all.

It's so cold...how cold is it......

OH man...I almost got trapped outside a minute ago. McGyver INSISTED on going out to potty. Well the outer porch door knob froze shut...and I had to haul my arm way back and slam the knob with my fist to break it loose. THREE times! My heart down in my toes there for a few seconds.

Deja Vu!

I was sitting here reading on the chapters for one of the week 2 assignments (you know..studying ahead since I'm on a two week holiday, might as well stay ahead of the curve)...occasionally pausing to highlight key sentences...and suddenly I recognized the scene...me sitting in chair with one leg tucked under me, highlighter pen in hand...book opened to a certain page with figure charts at top and bottom of page...and I realized...I had a dream about this very scenario some years ago!

Can't recall the whole dream...but I did recognize this little snippet of it! Cue the eerie music!

A VERY angry kitty

Ooooooooh! There is currently an outside cat in the throes of a 'mad on'.

Apparently I have made a grave tactical error, in giving the next door neighbor cats some chicken to help with keeping grease and fat in their diets (so they can deal with the colder weather).

About three weeks ago a lovely long haired, short tailed, orange and white cat showed up in my driveway...complete with a jingle bell collar. No one knows who she is or where she came from. Normally a sweet tempered cat, so naturally I dubbed her Sweet Pea. Well sports fans...Sweet Pea does NOT approve of other cats being on HER property. Was just outside a few minutes ago with McGyver, and three young cats from next door came over to say hello. *big blue eyes* Sweet Pea's ears are now in the flat position, and there is growling, grumbling, tail twitching and she is in tearing up turf in a strong display of a temper tantrum of magnificent proportions.

@_@

I got tagged

Firstly: If you've been tagged, you must write your answers in your own LJ and replace any question that you dislike with anew, original question.

Secondly: Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.

I got tagged by ishte

===========================================================

Who sleeps in bed next to you? McGyver Benu Durango LittleWolf MacMahon Bramble, Defender of the Realm, Master of all he surveys, and My Hero (in other words a bossy 12 lb dog)

Have you ever lied to a teacher to get out of a deadline? Ummmm....would you settle for I don't know? Can't recall?

What kind of magazines do you read? Whatever is at the laundromat.

What's your occupation? Does student count as an occupation?

What do you want most right now? A safe house in Vermont with no issues, that is strong/warm/lots of acreage for oodles of animals and gardens and a greenhouse and....

Think 2012's gonna happen? Well not how the doomsayers are screaming and carrying on about. What? It's a number....now listen do you remember the freaking out about the millennium? Notice NOTHING happened! Geesh.

What's your current fandom/obsession/addiction? Ummmmm.....definitely obsessed with school work.

What are you listening to right now? McGyver playing with something under the bed. Since he is UNDER the bed it's more than likely something he should NOT have!

What food could you eat every day for weeks and not get sick of? Vegetarian pizza with pineapple.

What websites do you always visit when you go online? LiveJournal, weather.com, and the government earthquake tracking site.

What was the last thing you bought? A bedside lamp at the local thrift store. My lovely battery operated reading lamp exploded last night, LITERALLY! That was ...well...it made me go from perfectly still to near warp speed in the blink of an eye!

What's your favourite song right now? Right now? Probably anything from the Momma Mia movie. Seriously that soundtrack is addictive!

Does the weather affect your mood? Oddly enough I get SAD in the Summertime! TOO MUCH light!

Do you want to learn another language? YES!!!!!!

5 things you can't live without. I'm with Ishte on this one. Food, Water, Air, Electricity, Warmth, Shelter.

Do you have any siblings? Older sister, who I absolutely adore. And a younger half sister, who I claim only if I absolutely have to.

What's something you'd like to say to someone right now? If I said what has been on my mind, there would be a lot of hurt feelings. Really it is something that should be said in private, so I'll not go there.

What are you looking forward to? Graduating from college!

Say something to the person who tagged you: I LOVE YOU! I MISS YOU! Damn I want to get back in shape so we can ride the Katy Trail, or some of the awesome trails back East!

Hmmmm....now who to tag......AH I know! nevetts63, angeko_neko, ceroill2, gangrel_pri, [Bad username: indigocub,], olgrumpy, evilpenguini, snakypoet

T'was the Eve before Solstice

Don't remember where it came from but I am sure you all will enjoy it. And for all you cranky people...PAY ATTENTION!

T'was the Eve before Solstice and all through our home
All the creatures were a'stirring, even the elves and the gnomes.
Our cauldron was bubblin' full of warm holiday cheer
And everyone knew that Yule was soon to be here.

When out by our herb garden, there was a clankity-clatter,
We ran to the window to see what was the matter.
It seemed as though the caroler's from the Church down the road,
Had run into our friend Hazel with her broom and her toad.

And off to the side what else did we see?
A Hanukkah Menorah, a Kinara Set for Kwanzaa, and a decked out Christmas tree!
As if all this commotion was not enough on it's own,
On the television the weatherman was calling for snow!

Faced with the prospect of all these faiths stuck together,
We grabbed our BOS to find a spell to block bad weather.
And while we were a lookin', and chanting and saying,
Outside the Evangelicals for our souls were a' praying!

Finally I'd had enough of this mess
And I raised my voice - as you all know I can do best.
"Now Christian, and Pagan, Wiccan, and Jew
And to those who honor your heritage too;

There is way too much wrong in the world today,
Can't we all get along instead of fighting this way?
Though different in origin and sometimes world's apart
The basic meanings of this season all come from the heart.

Now all of you hush and pull up a stool or a chair,
And stop your bickering, before I start pulling hair!
Have a warm cup of cheer and some munchies and wine,
And lets all share in this holiday time.

Through storms and wars and sadness and woe
Now is the time to be friends and not foes.
Then after I spoke, I turned back to our hearth,
And soon all the rest gathered 'round in it's warmth.

To the Pagan and Christian; Wiccan, Heathen and Jew
The Buddhist, and Hindu and all in-between too -
Here is wishing happiness, health, wealth and joy to all
Merry Sol-chris-ma- hanuk-yule- wnaza!
And have a Happy New Year Too!

Guess who's allergic to boysenberry!?!

WHO KNEW!? Certainly not me....until earlier today!

Went up to Belton, to do a bit of necessary shopping, and stopped in IHOP for some waffles. Been craving some for awhile and lookie there anew IHOP! While talking to the very thoughtful waitress I decided to take a wee sample taste of some boysenberry syrup (pure stuff too), as I'd never had any boysenberry anything and today seemed a good day to try something new. Uh huh....

Less than five minutes later I am having a unique experience with an allergic reaction....lower lip swelled up, face started itching, started wheezing AND, this part was new....sneezing. Plus the inside of my nose was itching like mad....that was a new one as well. There I was wheezing between sneezing fits with the waitress running for the employee area for some Benadryl....plus she stated "Perhaps we should call an ambulance." But I felt that wasn't totally necessary even managed to say between each sneeze "Lets...*sneeze*...not....*sneeze*...panic....*sneeze*....about....*sneeze*....this. *sneeze*" itch itch itch.....Besides the ER was just under a mile from them....you can see it from the windows across the highway.

I felt as long as I could swallow, and get a bit of breath in the rest was manageable. Of all days to NOT have my emergency allergy supplies with me!

Remind me to not be adventurous with new foods ever again!!!

What really is a bummer about the allergy is the fact that I REALLY did like the taste of boysenberry!!!

"What are you allergic to?" "Yes."

Well this was an emotional day!

Man what a day! The only thing that sort of went right, was the fact the alarm clock went off at the set time. After that it was an exercise in patience just getting my dress dress clothes on for the luncheon. Wanted to wear my leather trench coat...pulled it out of the closet only to find it was covered in mildew. Threw a minor fit about that. Well okay....heavy dress dress coat instead. Couldn' tfind my suede boots, finally found them in a spot I KNEW I hadn't put them. But oh well at least I found them. FINALLY got out thed oor...stopped at the post office for the mail....couldn't drop the books off at the library because their parking lot was jam packed. Stopped at Casey's for a cup of coffee and my powerball tickets on the way out of town. Got halfway to the destination and realized I had a bad headache, and it was because I was wearing my older glasses. WHY? I have no idea why I put them on....so where are my other "newer"glasses?

I was THE last person into the meeting room, and they were shutting the door behind me. Barely got there in time. *sigh* Luncheon was actually quite delicious, one of the older gals had made sure the kitchen fixed me a vegetarian meal. Fancy stuffed tomatoes filled with spinach and some kind of cheese then baked. Broccoli and Cauliflower steamed with cheese over it. Some green beans drizzled with olive oil then baked for a few minutes. Steamed carrots. OMG that was goooood.

Our entertainment for the day was a man who could sing with such a lovely tenor voice, gave me goose bumps. But some of his song choices were probably ill thought out....songs of memories and loved ones gone but soon will be at their side. Oh dear....a room full of widows...Christmas season....our table blubbered. Well the older gal next to me started out...I leaned over to hold her in a hug and she whispered that she had lost her husband a few days after Christmas last year....so this was her first Christmas without him. I told her to go ahead and cry it was alright, we'd cry with her. That set Vieta off into some soft crying and two other gals...including the woman who started the group over 11 years ago. I was doing alright until the man sang John Denver's song "Country roads." Well THAT song has always made me cry....so there I went.

The woman who started the group is actually the wife of the current Potentate, and she was at the meeting just to be with "her lovely ladies" so when the man asked "Any requests?" she called out "YES! Something a bit more upbeat and in the spirit of the holiday." "What?" "We have an entire table back here blubbering, with two recent widows!" Thankfully he went on to some carols and ended with Oh Holy Night. Hey I may be pagan but I have always loved that song,so I was singing along with the guy.

Man when I finally left I had an even worse headache! Still have one....and have done all the "witchy" tricks to try and get rid of it. Bleh...hate crying...

The origin of the possum

I didn't come up with this...my wacky cousin in law sent it to me, in response to my close encounter with a HUUUUGE possum. Well alright maybe not Godzilla Possum, but when you turn your head and are staring right into the eyes of the thing....

The origin of the Possum---------------------------------------

One day, God decided he needed a day off, so he gathered together a few of his head angels and let them know he was going to go down to Scotland and play a couple rounds of golf.

The angels said "Don't worry, boss. we'll take care of everything up here"

God got back that night and felt more relaxed than he had in years.

The head angel came up to him and said "ummm...boss? We...uhhh...had an...um....incident while you were playing golf"

"You're impeding my relaxation, Mike. What happened?" said God.

"Well," said Michael "some of the guys..not me! were kinda screwing around in the lab...and well...we kinda made something..."

God was a bit miffed now and definitely not relaxed anymore."YOU CREATED SOMETHING???? What in the name of Me did you make?"

"Well, we're not sure....it's kind of a cross....between a rat....and a cat. And we're not sure...but we think it has a southern accent."

Therein lies the origin of the Opossum.

I am SO annoyed!

Decided to unpack the fourth bookcase, bring the pieces into the house and warm up so I could put it together. Got down to the bottom of the box,to where the side walls of the case were stored...only to find BOTH side walls were cracked to the point they wouldn't support a damn thing.

Now I have to repack the blasted thing. Tape it all up and....get this, put it INTO my PT Cruiser and take it up to WalMart in Harrisonville. Fedex won't accept return packages.

How the hell am I going to wrestle a 71 inch long box into a PT Cruiser!!!?!!! Especially with my messed up back!

Let us pray the customer service person isn't snippy...the mood I am currently in means their head could easily wind up on a pike in my front yard...ala Viking style.

(blue eyes now glowing red in anger)

True Faith

Still touching no matter how often it is read

Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus
By Francis P. Church, first published in The New York Sun in 1897. [See The People’s Almanac, pp. 1358–9.]

We take pleasure in answering thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the same time our great gratification that its faithful author is numbered among the friends of The Sun

:Dear Editor—I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, “If you see it in The Sun, it’s so.” Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?
Virginia O’Hanlon

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished. Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world. You tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding. No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

(I need to write a dear Santa letter to Odin)

Astral traveling again...finally

Huh...what I thought was an odd dream last night turns out to be a bit of astral traveling WITH McGyver! In the "dream" we were in a town/city up on the square and McGyver started playing with a wee little light tan Chihuahua. He seemed to think it was a baby, so was treating it very gently with a paternal type attitude towards it. I started describing the setting to Cousin Teresa, in Williamsburg Virginia...and she wondered if maybe it was Merchants Square.

So...out of curiosity, I went to find some online photos of Merchants Square. THAT'S THE PLACE! In fact I recognized one of the buildings, and Teresa claims it's not too far from where she lives.

How 'bout that...McGyver and I went to see Williamsburg last night! The only other time one of my furred companions astraled with me, would have been Salem many many years ago. I forget what it was about, but it seemed imperative the cat and I got to a certain "safe house" up on the astral planes in order to check on someone's welfare. Now my doglet is traveling with me....wonder if this means we will be physically visiting Williamsburg, Virginia and he'll recognize this little dog he was playing with?

2009's First Christmas Joke

*teehee* For those of you who know me and my sense of humor, you will understand I could NOT resist sharing this joke a friend sent me.

2009's First Christmas Joke

Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates.

'In honor of this holy season' Saint Peter said, 'You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven.'

The man from Nova Scotia fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. 'It represents a candle', he said.

'You may pass through the pearly gates' Saint Peter said.

The man from Saskatchewan reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, 'They're bells.'

Saint Peter said 'You may pass through the pearly gates'.

The Newfoundlander started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties.

St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, 'And just what do those symbolize?'

The Newfie replied, 'These are Carols.'

And So The Christmas Season Begins......

I swear this Bramble clan is dysfunctional

I said it before, and I'll say it again....I married into the most dysfunctional clan on the planet!!!

After today I've discovered a whole new level to their dysfunction!

It's my niece in law that is making me crazy at the moment. I spent the day with Patsy, Gerry's sister...and I noted with great alarm how physically ill she appeared, plus very obvious signs of dementia. The poor woman has a LOT of health problems: bad heart, high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, ONE kidney and a few months back was diagnosed with colon cancer. Patsy was really out of firm touch today, so I called her daughter a little while ago to let her know what I observed. My jaw about hit the floor when the gal snappily replied "Well she brings it on herself with that mouth and attitude. And I'm not going to discuss my mother with you, you don't know the full story...but I'll check on her in a few days."

EXCUSE ME!? I've been around Patsy for nearly 30 years! I know their family history, as much as they know at least...and they're all like the niece in law.

Within MY family jungle... if someone calls expressing concern over a family member, we jump in our cars and get there..or start making phone calls to the rest of the family to round up someone that may be physically closer to their location. We don't discount the phone call, or denigrate the concerned family member!

However, with the Bramble clan...it's all for themselves and the hell with the rest of the crew. They don't care about family history, or anything else that is, or should be, important to family. Makes me wonder if the rest of their tree is the same way?

ARRRGH!

After getting my first cup of coffee for the day, trust me you don't want to be near me until then, I check with weather.com to see if anything may be heading this way that would change my schedule for the day. After that I check earthquake.gov, to make sure family & friends flung far and wide are alright. Then I'll download my email while checking schedule, rearranging it or laying out the schoolwork to be done that day. Do a quick scan of the email for anything that needs a prompt reply, then dive into my day.

Propane heater maybe fixed now

Well the damn thing in the front room popped off AGAIN...so I bite the bullet and called the propane company to see if they had any idea why. They sent down the man who actually helped install these two radiant heaters, which seemed to be a year before Gerry died. He listened to what I had been observing. Took it apart...noted it looked remarkably clean externally (well duh it should...I cleaned it just a few days ago) then told me "These stoves have a certain tickle spot, let's see if there's anything in there."

Tickle spot? Out came a pipe cleaner and he used it to clean out the supply tube, then poofed some air into a little hole I had never noticed before. WHOOSH some dirt came out the end of the supply tube! Put the stove completely back together and lit it....while waiting he surprised me by asking how my back was doing. Huh? Apparently most of the Garden City area knows about my back. He even demonstrated some back exercises he does every morning "I haven't been to a chiropractor for over a year now...do these exercises every morning and you'll be just fine."

McGyver just wasn't sure what to think of the man. First he dismantles something important, fiddles with it, puts it back together THEN shows momma back exercises. Who is this man? *LOL*

So far the stove seems to be working fine now.
